Ski in Hakuba, 7 day Educational Trip in Japan

Change currency £(GBP) $(USD)

7 days, based on a group of 50 students - from £1,315

School ski trips are a great learning opportunity and a fantastic way to get students outdoor and active! Hakuba, home of the 1998 Winter Olympics, offers a great chance for students to acquaint themselves with the Japanese culture, customs and try out some of their language skills. We have put together an exciting package, from 4 days of ski fun and instruction to a night of Goryu Drumming and snow monkey encounters. Encouraging plenty of fun and learning on and off the slopes. Any questions? Check out our itinerary below or scroll down to contact us directly :)

Day 1: Take in the beautiful scenery of Nagano

Arrive at Narita International airport where your ski rep will pick you up and take you to Nagano, Hakuba by private coach. Once you arrive at the hotel, take in Nagano’s beautiful scenery and get a hearty meal in to charge up for the next few days of skiing!

Day 2: Ski like an Olympian

Where better to learn how to ski than at the former site of the 1998 Winter Olympics? Enjoy a full day skiing with group lessons in the morning.

Day 3: Snow Shoeing in Hakuba

After a day on the slopes, head out for some night-time snowshoeing; a non-strenuous walk off the beaten track with a chance to see rabbits, foxes and local Japanese animals.

Day 4 - 5: Ski like a pro

To make sure everyone gets the most of their ski lessons, we planned two full days of skiing with plenty of rest time in the evening.

Day 6: Snow Monkeys and Taiko

Meet snow monkeys in Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park and then head to Zenko-ji Temple to see the first Buddhist statue that ever reached Japan. In the evening, awards will be given out for ski performance and celebrated with an evening of traditional TAIKO.

Day 7: Back to Tokyo

In the morning you will be picked up by your ski rep to head back to Tokyo Narita Airport.

Learning Outcomes

Action & Outdoor Education; students will be using their wits as well as bodies to master winter sports on these world-class slopes. Expect students at a complete beginner level for snowboarding or skiing to be able to make basic turns, and more, by the end of their four-day instruction with the Snow School.

How much does a Japan trip cost?

  • Despite the stereotype, travelling in Japan does not have to be as expensive as you might assume! There is a wide range of budget accommodation options, transportation passes and sightseeing discounts which help to make Japan affordable and we will work with you to suit your budget.

Who has travelled with us before?

  • We’re trusted by some of the world’s leading schools and universities including:
  • Whitgift School (UK)
  • The Royal Grammar School High Wycombe (UK)
  • International School of Paris (France)
  • Lorien Novalis School (Australia)
  • Didcot Girls School
  • Bedes School
  • Edgbaston High School

  • North London Collegiate School (all UK)
  • Visit our reviews section to read about their experiences.

When should we visit?

  • The Dragon Trip operates its school ski trips from December 15th- March 31st. If your school prefers to organise a trip outside of the ski season, see our Japan school trips. It is best to make a booking 12 months in advance, but trips can be arranged at shorter notice as well.

Is it safe?

  • Travelling to Japan is safer than most other places. Crime rates in Japan are exceptionally low and many travellers to the country have been amazed by the levels of honesty they have encountered! Having said that, pick pockets operate regardless of nationality so we would always advise caution when travelling.
  • Moreover, The Dragon Trip treats health and safety with the utmost importance. We suss out the international-standard hospitals and medical facilities in every city we visit. We ensure the hostel accommodation we work with meet our high-standards and we have public liability insurance up to 5 million and full financial protection. You can see some of our policy and risk assessment forms on the website.

Can you help us get a trip approved?

  • Yes. We’ve worked closely with many schools to ensure their local council or authorising body have all the information they need in order to approve the trips, and that we have fulfilled all of our obligations regarding this. Ask us for more information.

Can we take a pre-departure inspection trip?

  • Yes. We offer discounted, pre-trip, teacher “recce trips” for your trip to Japan so you can do a preliminary check on all the locations and activities on your itinerary.
